East St. Paul receives $89,396 for Dutch elm disease management

On Thursday, July 20, 2017, St. Paul MLA Ron R. Schuler announced Dutch elm disease management funding for the communities of East St. Paul, West St. Paul and Springfield.

The funding announcement was held at Hyland Park in East St. Paul and included representatives of each rural municipality.  East St. Paul Mayor Shelley Hart and Councillor Charles Posthumus were in attendance for the announcement.

Mayor Hart spoke on behalf of East St. Paul Council, acknowledging the funding and the overall importance of the trees to our community.  Hart also commented on the Province’s willingness to review the funding of this program to further assist municipalities.

"We continue to work with the Province and the Association of Manitoba Municipalities to make improvements to this program throughout the Province,” Hart said.

"We have already found efficiencies for our community by joining forces with West St. Paul for the procurement of tree removal services.”

This year, during the months of January and February, 482 Dutch elm trees were removed in the community of East St. Paul alone.
