New Community Development Officer

Cara Nichols is East St. Paul's new community development officer, and she brings a wealth of experience to the position.
Nichols, who has a Masters of City Planning as well as a Bachelor of Environmental Design, (Architecture) started with the RM on Oct. 3.
"I love working with the community, and I am very passionate about planning," Nichols said.
"The staff here are so welcoming and friendly, and the overall RM office atmosphere is very positive."
As a development officer, Nichols deals with planning issues for the municipality, including subdivisions and development agreements as well as zoning issues.
If you're a resident who wants to know how close your new garage can be to your property line, or what the maximum height for your fence is, Nichols can assist with that too.
Mayor Shelley Hart welcomed Nichols to the team.
"We are very pleased to have someone with Cara's education and experience join our team," Hart said.
"The municipality deals with planning and development issues daily and having this expertise on staff will improve our capacity and effectiveness."
East St. Paul is part of the Red River Planning District, so applications for things like subdivisions and zoning amendments, must be made to Red River.
"Everything is sent to us, through them," Nichols said.
Nichols previously worked for WSP, where she did both planning and architecture. She brings six years of work experience to her position with East St. Paul.
