PLAN. PREPARE. BE AWARE
Posted: May 3, 2016
RM of East St. Paul Emergency Preparedness Team would like to invite all
residents to participate in Emergency Preparedness Week which is taking place
from May 1-7, 2016.
theme this year is plan, prepare, be aware.
Emergency preparedness is one of the responsibilities of the federal
government department known as Public Safety Canada. Their website is http://www.publicsafety.gc.ca
addition, you are also encouraged to visit the municipal website at http://www.eaststpaul.com
. Under the government tab, you will find the
emergency preparedness topic which will provide you with a vast amount of
information as well as answer some questions you may have.
on your geographical locations throughout Canada, municipalities face different
risks, manmade or natural. The intent of
emergency preparedness is to help you get ready regardless of the emergency
that you may be involved in.72 Hours: Is Your Family
an emergency happens in your community, it may take emergency workers some time
to reach you. You should be prepared to take care of yourself and your family for
a minimum of 72 hours as emergency responders may be tied up assisting those
who need urgent and immediate help. One
thing we have to be wary of is our dependence on technology. In case of a sustained power outage, it may
be some time before electricity is once again available. It is important to devices available that are
non-rechargeable battery operated as well as a supply of batteries on hand.
Make a Plan
Every Canadian household needs
an emergency plan. It will help you and your family knows what to do in case of
an emergency. It will take you about 20 minutes to make your plan. Your family may not be together
when an emergency occurs. Plan how to meet or how to contact one another, and
discuss what you would do in different situations. We encourage you to visit https://www.getprepared.gc.ca
open the tab labeled "your emergency plan”.
The website will walk you through the process of making your
personalized family plan.
If you have any questions
regarding emergency planning, please contact the municipal office and someone
will get in touch with you.
