ESP Centennial Bonspiel kicks off year of celebrations
On Jan. 30, a sold out bonspiel at the East St. Paul Curling Club kicked off the 2016 year of Centennial events.

The bonspiel was co-sponsored by the East St. Paul Curling Club and the East St. Paul Lions Club.  St. Paul M.L.A. Ron Schuler, Mayor Shelley Hart, Coun. Brian Duval and 96 curlers were piped out onto the ice where ESP Curling Club President Bob Sywy led the opening ceremonies.

Twenty-four teams competed for a number of prizes and when the curling was done and the results tabulated, the winners were announced.

Bonspiel winners: Bob Sywy, Sandi Martin, Al Park, Vela Park
Most Honest Curlers: Colleen Sailor, Roberta Anderson, D.J. Sigmundson, Paige Rebeck
Turkey Shoot: Len Claeys, Tracey Nichols, Kim McVey, Ward McVey

The evening was a great opportunity to celebrate the community’s Centennial, share some memories and make some new ones.

Congratulations to the bonspiel organizers whose efforts ensured the success of this event; curling club members Judy Rebeck, Tim Rebeck and Renee Fletcher and Lions Club members Norm Paulson, Ward McVey and Gary Rebeck.
A special thanks to all the volunteers, participants and sponsors who made this bonspiel a great success.
