East St. Paul congratulates provincial champions

When the Kerri Einarson women’s curling team clinched its first Manitoba women’s curling championship on Sunday, it also brought the Scotties Tournament of Hearts title banner back to the East St. Paul Curling Club.

Einarson, backed up by third Selena Kaatz, second Liz Fyfe, lead Kristin MacCuish, fifth Cherie-Ann Sheppard and coach Patti Wuthrich, will now represent Manitoba at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts which run from Feb. 20-28 in Grande Prairie, Alta.

"Throughout the week, the Einarson team played with determination, class and were outstanding representatives of the East St. Paul community,” Mayor Shelley Hart said. "We wish them all the best in their run for a Canadian women’s championship. All of East St. Paul will be cheering them on.”

This is the second time an East. St. Paul-based team has won the Manitoba women’s curling championship, with Einarson joining the 1980 Donna Brownridge rink as a champion. In 2002, Carl German won the provincial senior men’s championship and in 2015, Kim Link claimed the senior women’s title. Both also represented the East St. Paul Curling Club.
