Remembrance Day Services in East St. Paul

Royal Canadian Legion, Henderson Hwy Branch No. 215 hosts service

L to R:  Mayor Hart, Rev. Nimik, Councillor Posthumus, Legion 215 President Cde. Napoleone, Councillor Duval, Legion 215 Cde. Al Mills

On November 11, 2015, Remembrance Day services were held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Henderson Highway Branch #215, 3600 De Vries Avenue in East St. Paul.  Officiated by The Reverend Father Ted Nimik, the hall was filled to capacity with approximately 300 people in attendance to pay their respects.

Several members of Council attended the service and a memorial wreath was placed by Mayor Shelley Hart on behalf of the R.M. of East St. Paul.

Other dignitaries in attendance at the service were MP MaryAnn Mihychuk (Kildonan – St. Paul), MLA Bonnie Mitchelson (River East), City of Winnipeg Councillor Jeff Browaty (North Kildonan), River East Transcona School Trustees Peter Kotyk and Michael West and the Past President of the Dutch Canadian Society of MB, Mr. Gerrit Vanderklok.

MLA Ron Schuler (St. Paul) attended a service in Oakbank MB this year and was represented at the East St. Paul service by his daughter Brigitta Schuler.  Ms. Schuler brought greetings and spoke eloquently and passionately about what freedom means for her and her generation.

Another moving presentation was by Mr. Bob Krul, Honourary Consul for the Kingdom of the Netherlands.  He spoke with great emotion about the deep respect the people of the Netherlands have for Canadians and how they will never forget the role they played in liberating their country.

On behalf of our community, we extend our gratitude to all members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 215 Executive, and the Ladies Auxiliary who made this event possible.
