Posted: November 4, 2015
The Rural Municipality of East St. Paul introduced today a
new transit service, in conjunction with Wheelchair Services of Manitoba, for residents
with mobility issues.
The R.M. of East St. Paul-administered Handi-Transit service
offers transportation options to area residents with permanent or temporary
mobility impairments, age-related impairments and/or frailty, or who are
legally blind. They may use the service to reach medical appointments, shopping
needs, visiting friends and relatives as well as recreational opportunities.
Those wishing to use Handi-Transit must first fill out an
application form, available HERE
, and return it to the R.M. of East St. Paul office at 3021 Birds Hill Rd.
Applications will then be reviewed to ensure the eligibility of those wishing
to use the service. All information provided by the applicants will be kept
private and confidential. When approved, user cards will be issued that allow
people two round-trips per week. This can also include trips to Winnipeg,
though service fees will vary depending on the length of the trip.Priority will be given to riders seeking transportation to
medical appointments, then shopping trips. Secondary priority will be given to
those using the service for visiting trips or to recreational activities.
Handi-Transit will be available from Monday to Friday, 9
a.m. to 6 p.m. Trips must be booked 24 hours in advance of travel, and must
originate from within R.M. of East St. Paul boundaries. Drop offs and pickups
will be to the ground floor entrances of departure and arrival locations. One-way
fares are $7 to areas in the RM of East St. Paul and in Winnipeg north of
Broadway Ave. One-way trips to south Winnipeg are available for $9. For more details on fares, the service area, or the Handi-Transit service itself, click HERE
