Fire Prevention Week October 4th to 10th - Tip 4

Posted: October 8, 2020

This is fire prevention week.  The theme this year is:

"Serve up fire safety in the kitchen”

Did you know that cooking is the number #1 cause of home fire and home fire injuries?

How to prevent burns or scald injuries and treatment:

  • When using a microwave use only containers approved for microwave use.
  • Allow foods to cool before removing from microwaves.
  • Prevent steam or scald burns by removing lids carefully.  Stir thoroughly to distribute the heat evenly.
  • Never microwave a baby bottle.
  • Either hold a hot beverage or hold a child, not both at the same time.
  • Always use oven mitts when removing items from the oven.
  • Be careful when draining pasta or pouring hot liquids to avoid splashing.
  • Limit use of tablecloths or placements if you have young children.  Pulling on them may cause hot liquids/foods to spill.
  • If someone is burned, run the burn under cool (not cold) water for a maximum of 20 minutes.
  • Remove rings or other tight objects from the burned area as soon as possible.
  • Do not break blisters.
  • Do not apply ice, butter, oil or creams that contain fragrances.
  • If the burn is severe seek medical attention immediately and contact emergency services.

Pease contact the administration office if you have any questions and someone will get in touch with you.
