Fire Prevention Week October 4th to 10th - Tip 1

Posted: October 5, 2020

This is fire prevention week.  The theme this year is:

"Serve up fire safety in the kitchen”

Did you know that cooking is the number #1 cause of home fire and home fire injuries?  In addition, every year, the East St. Paul Fire Department responds to numerous calls regarding fire alarm activation.  There were 51 calls involving fire alarms in 2019 and the bulk of these were caused by cooking.  We will be providing some safety tips throughout the week in keeping with the theme.

The first installment is personal safety tips:

Be alert. Don’t use cooking equipment if you are sleepy or have consumed alcohol or drugs.

Don't wear loose-fitting clothing around cooking surfaces, especially loose sleeves.

Roll up sleeves to keep them away from cooking surfaces.

Tuck in shirts before cooking.

Secure long hair to keep it away from cooking surfaces.

Keep children and pets away from cooking surfaces.

If you have children in the house, consider using the back burners of the stove.

Pease contact the administration office if you have any questions and someone will get in touch with you.
