Marconi Trail asphalting project set to begin with grants of $180,000

Posted: September 1, 2020

Over the past month, the RM of East St. Paul has received $180,000 in grants for the paving of the Marconi trail – $105,000 from the Federal Government for the Trans Canada Trail through the Capital Improvement Plan and $75,000 from the Provincial Government’s Building Sustainable Communities Program.

At the August 18th Council meeting, the contract for this work was awarded to Meseyton Construction for a total cost of $267,000.

In East St. Paul, this trail runs north from the City of Winnipeg boundary, between Raleigh Street and Gateway Road.  The asphalting will begin where Winnipeg’s trail ends and will continue through to Hoddinott Road – approximately 3.7 kilometers in length.  The work, set to begin in the next two to three weeks, will improve this key portion of the Trans Canada Trail and will provide residents with an improved active transportation trail for commuting and recreation.  The work is to be completed before the end of October.
