Potential upcoming Heat Events in Manitoba

The following Heat Event notice is based on weather forecast information available at this time and outlooks may change over the next few days.

Geographical Extent:  
northern Manitoba to start, southern Manitoba to follow.

Duration: 
August 2 - 6 in the north and central regions; August 5 – 8 in the south.

Severity/Intensity:
above normal to well above normal conditions in the north, should see warning criteria met in most northern sites at some point during this period.
Above normal but sub-warning conditions expected in the central and southern areas.

Confidence:
moderate-high.

Heat Event Threshold for southern Manitoba:
Issued when 2 or more consecutive days of daytime maximum temperatures are expected to reach 32°C or warmer and nighttime minimum temperatures are expected to fall to 16°C or warmer.  Or issued when 2 or more consecutive days of humidex values are expected to reach 38 or higher.

Heat Event Threshold for central and northern Manitoba:
Issued when 2 or more consecutive days of daytime maximum temperatures are expected to reach 29°C or warmer and nighttime minimum temperatures are expected to fall to 16°C or warmer. Or issued when 2 or more consecutive days of humidex values are expected to reach 34 or higher.
