Councillor Corner
Ward 2 - Orest Horechko

The last month has been very different for most of us as we have all learned about - and practiced social distancing.  We see our neighbors out walking and cycling with their families, enjoying the outdoors as much as possible but still social distancing.

As we are out for our daily walks these past few weeks, we may have noticed various smells in our neighbourhoods - people barbecuing and burning in their fire pits.  The following are the guidelines for burning in East St. Paul:

  • We cannot burn grass, leaves, garbage or various painted or treated wood or any fuel that when it is burning may result in the release of dense smoke or odours

  • We can only burn charcoal briquettes or clean dry wood in outdoor fire pits which must be constructed of concrete, masonry or heavy gauge metal.

  • The fire must be continuously supervised by an adult and must have a garden hose or pail of water by the fire pit.

  • We cannot burn on windy days (15 miles an hour or more) or in extreme drought conditions.

If you have any other questions regarding burning please contact, the East St. Paul Fire Department at (204) 668-8112  or by email at fire.department@eaststpaul.com.

We should all enjoy our time outside with family - please stay safe for yourself and others.
