Get to know changes to RM's snowmobile route

The RM has made amendments to its snowmobile by-law, including changes to the route map.

Snowmobiles are no longer permitted on Mulder Road and Camsell Avenue, east of Raleigh Street and a small section of Birds Hill Road.  Snowmobiles are now permitted on Raleigh between Bottomly Creek and the Degroot/Fahr Drain.

Couns. Carla Devlin and Charles Posthumus made up the RM's Off Road Committee and said the most important thing about snowmobiling in the municipality is operators be respectful of others and exercise caution while travelling.

"We encourage everyone to take a look at the route map so they know where they can and can't operate their snowmobiles, there are only a couple of changes, but people need to know them," Devlin said.

"The map is also a good resource for new residents.  We've had a lot of growth in the municipality, so the map is helpful for those who have just moved here."

Posthumus said snowmobiling hasn't been allowed on Hoddinott Road for several years.

"It's a popular spot for people to go for walks and take their dogs out, so snowmobilers absolutely can't travel Hoddinott.  I think most people know that, but it's always good to remind them," he said.

The by-law prohibits snowmobiling on private property and sets a speed limit of 25 kph when within 200 metres of any residential development.

Devlin said they're working to get signage to identify the trail with posted speed limits and stop signs.
