Curling legend Kevin Martin and his son Karrick, whose team is currently ranked third in the world swept into East St. Paul from their homes in Edmonton last weekend and spent a couple of days in the community, visiting schools, the curling club and speaking at the Leonard Baranyk Sr. Memorial Banquet.

Kevin Martin, who won curling gold at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and silver at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics, is now retired from the sport.

Karrick Martin plays lead for Brendan Bottcher on the World Curling Tour.

The father & son duo stopped by Birds Hill and Dr. Hamilton schools on Nov 1st to visit full K-6 assemblies totalling 480 students. At Dr. Hamilton School, the students made cards to give to the Martins, and one young lady turned the tide on the famous curling duo and warmed their hearts when she handed Karrick her card, and proclaimed, ‘Here, this is my autograph’. The card was signed ‘Sophia’.

It was just one of many memorable moments during the Martins’ stop, which included three curling clinics at the East St. Paul Curling Club where enthusiastic local curlers got to learn from Canada’s best.

They rounded out the weekend as guest speakers at the banquet, with Manitoba curling legend, Resby Coutts, as the Master of Ceremonies. The weekend was coordinated by Barry Gorlick.

Congratulations to the volunteer Board of the ESPCC for an outstanding weekend of curing events in the community.
