Residents respond to COPP at Sobeys

L to R:  COPP volunteer Ron Demski and ESP Coordinator Detlef Hindemith

This past Saturday, East St. Paul’s Citizens on Patrol Program (ESP COPP) set up an informational table at Sobeys, handing out information about the program and answering questions from the community.

A number of residents completed applications on site after learning just how easy it is to participate in this community crime prevention initiative.  Others took information to show their friends, family and neighbors.

COPP is looking for more volunteers to help keep our community safe!  If you’re considering joining, here are some quick facts about the program.

  • COPP members provide a visible presence patrolling the community by walking, bicycling or in a vehicle

  • COPP member’s role is observational, documenting and reporting questionable activities to the RCMP

  • Only two to three hours a month is the suggested minimum time commitment

  • Patrol anytime it fits your schedule, leave directly from your home

  • Snowbirds, retirees welcome

  • Recognized volunteer experience – especially for a law enforcement career

  • No special skills required

  • Members will receive training on what activities to watch for and reporting procedures

  • Vehicle reimbursement is available to offset fuel expenses
