Doors at Henderson Legion are open to all

It's a new year and we're
off to a fresh start, and Fiona Olsen, President of the Henderson Legion #215, wants to remind everyone that the Legion's doors are open to all.
"There's been a misconception for many years that the Legion is only for veterans, and it's not," Olsen said.
"The Legion's motto is to serve veterans past and present and their families, but you do not have to be a veteran or a family member of a veteran to join the club.  It's open to all."
And, there are plenty of things for all at the Henderson Legion, all year round.
"We do family-friendly events throughout the year, it's open for families to come in.  We do Canada Day, we do Snow Golf, we have bands, there's just about anything and everything they could want, we've got it," Olsen said.
Mayor Shelley Hart said the Legion members work hard to host events for the community, and the Canada Day Celebrations are a perfect example.  There's food and drink and activities held at the Legion throughout the day and it's a great community event.
Olsen encourages people to come out to the Legion's regular activities like Chase the Ace and meat draws, and if cribbage is your game, Tuesday's is for you; dart lovers can play on Thursdays.
"It's a well-rounded club where there's something for everybody," Olsen said.
The basement hall was recently renovated and is available for rent for everything from socials to retirement or birthday parties, with or without a bartender.
Legions are of course well known for the annual poppy campaign, and Olsen said it's important to note all money from poppy sales goes back into the community to support veterans and their families.
The Legion also has bursaries for high school students.
