Fire Prevention Week
October 7 - 13, 2018

 
LOOK.  LISTEN.  LEARN.
Be Aware ... Fire Can Happen Anywhere
 
 

Look for places that a fire could start and address the problem.



Heating:
  • Keep all items at least 3 feet away from heating equipment
  • Never use your oven to heat your home
  • Turn heaters off when not in use
 
Electrical:
  • Do not overload outlets and plugs
  • Extension cords are designed for use as a temporary measure and should be replaced with proper wiring installed by a trained professional
  • Always follow manufacturer’s recommendations  when using or installing equipment that requires electricity
 
Smoking:
  • Consider smoking outside
  • Use a deep ashtray
  • Never smoke in bed
 
Housekeeping:
  • Regularly remove any potential hazards from your home such as flammable paints, solvents and excessive papers, etc.
  • Keep furnace room area free from combustibles 
 
Keep matches and lighters out of sight:
  • Teach children to tell you if they find matches or lighters
  • Remind them that they are tools for grown-ups
