#1: Fire Prevention Week - October 7 to 13, 2018

Posted: October 9, 2018

October 7 - 13, 2018

Be Aware

"Fire Can Happen Anywhere" is the theme for Fire Prevention Week.

for places that a fire could start, and address the problem.
Listen for and know the sound of the smoke alarm.
Learn two ways out of every room.

In the event of a home fire, occupants may have as little as one to two minutes to escape safely from the time the smoke alarm sounds.  Knowing how to use that time wisely takes planning and practice.

Calling 911 to Contact Emergency Services

As everyone is aware, emergency services which include police, fire and ambulance are available in the rural municipality 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.  If you have an emergency and need immediate assistance from one of the services, the number to call is 911.

The East St. Paul Fire Department is an on call service.   It has been noted that residents have been calling the fire department hall and leaving voice mail on the messaging machine indicating they are in need of assistance.  Due to the fact messages are not checked on a daily basis, this can result in undue delays. Similarly, residents have been leaving voice mail at the administration office and public works during non-business hours.

It is never wrong to call 911 even if you are unsure.  The operators and call takers are highly trained professionals and will downgrade the call if they determine the call it does not fit the emergency criteria.

911 calls from the rural municipality of East St. Paul are routed to the provincial 911 call centre in Brandon, Manitoba.  If you are calling from a cell phone, it is important to mention to the operator that you are calling from East St Paul.  If you are calling from a landline within East St Paul, the operator will know automatically that you are in the municipality.

If you need further information regarding 911, please contact Captain Jernej Anderlic from the East St. Paul Fire Department at 204-801-3672.

In an emergency, make the right call, dial 911.
