Provincial AA Championships at East St. Paul Sports Complex this weekend

Three baseball Provincial AA Championships are taking place in Manitoba this weekend, and one of them is right here in East St. Paul at the Sports Complex on Raleigh Street.  Fifteen teams from across Manitoba are vying for the 15U crown, which will take them to the Western Championships in La Broquerie, Manitoba, August 16 - 19.

The tournament started early Friday morning with three games followed by the opening ceremonies which included the singing of O’Canada by East St. Paul resident Corina Schuler.

Mayor Shelley Hart brought greetings on behalf of East St. Paul Council and the ceremonial first pitch was tossed out by Tom Maines.  As a member of the 1999-2008 Brandon Marlins of the MSBL, Tom was inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame in 2017.  He is also an East St. Paul resident and the director of baseball for the ESP Community Club.

The tournament host committee includes a partnership between the R.M. of East St. Paul, the East St. Paul Community Club and Red River Valley Baseball.  A special thank you to tournament organizers Nancy Plustwa, Tom Mirwaldt and Colleen Mirwaldt, East St. Paul municipal staff who have put in hours of work on the diamonds and the complex and the many volunteers helping out all weekend.
