Yard Waste Program Begins in East St. Paul

East St. Paul's yard waste pick up started May 1 and runs until November 2, 2018.

Yard waste pick up provides a great opportunity to have things like grass clippings and small branches removed from your property, but there are some rules you need to follow.

Reusable containers, without lids, cardboard boxes and paper yard waste bags are all acceptable for yard waste.  If you are using a reusable container, such as a plastic tub, old blue box or metal or plastic garbage can, please make sure they are in good condition.  And please, do not use a lid.

Cardboard boxes can also be used for yard waste, but they will be taken away with the waste; reusable containers will not.  And just a reminder, if you are using cardboard boxes, don't put them out when it's raining.  If they get wet and are falling apart, they won't be picked up.

Please keep your yard waste to less than 22 kg or 50 pounds.  Yard waste in plastic bags will not be picked up.  Plastic does not break down and will ruin the compost.

You can put grass clippings, leaves, plants, flowers, bush and shrub clippings and small tree branches - no more than 10 cm or 4 inches in diameter - in your yard waste.

Beside your yard waste containers or bags, you can place tied bundles of branches, that are less than 22 kg or 50-lbs.  Branches must be less than one metre (39 inches) long and less than 10 cm (4 inches) in diameter.

Yard waste should be placed at least arm's length from your garbage and recycling carts.  You must place your yard waste out before 7 a.m. on your regular garbage or recycling collection day, but no sooner than the night before.

Items NOT accepted in the yard waste program:
  • logs
  • stumps
  • rocks
  • dirt
  • sod
  • flower pots
  • branches more than 10 cm (4 inches) in diameter
  • garbage of any kind
  • painted or treated wood or lumber

Should you have any questions, please call the Operations Department @ (204) 668-8336.
