It's March - time for Tournament of Aces

March is known for several things - coming in like a lion and out like a lamb for starters, but if you're parents of a young hockey player, it's also known for the East St. Paul Tournament of Aces.

The Tournament of Aces, which began this year, February 26 and runs until March 18, began in the 1970s, making it the longest running hockey tournament for players eight-and-under in the province.

East St. Paul Community Centre President and Hockey Director Ken Lotocki says the tournament takes a huge community effort to be successful and he thanked the RM and all the sponsors who make the tournament a success.

But he also thanked the countless volunteers who work tirelessly for the tournament.

"Through consistent hard work, level of commitment and perseverance, each one of you have made a hockey tournament a significant part of our community and something to look forward to each year," Lotocki said, adding a special thank you to committee members Barb Bogen, Lee Hurton, Ainsley Gerrard, Natalie Lopes, Nancy Plustwa along with the East St. Paul team reps.

The tournament is first and foremost a hockey tournament, but it also includes scores of other social activities that bring the community together.

There's the Pratts Family Fun Night (March 10, 5pm start), as well as bingo and beer gardens every weekend, pierogies, chuck-a-puck, Ryan Price Magic Free Show (March 16, 7pm) and the St. Patrick's Day Social on March 17.

Everyone is welcome to take in the activities, please come out and join in this great community event.
