East St. Paul Launching Peace Days with Flag Raising

The RM of East St. Paul will be raising a Peace Flag on Friday, Sept. 15 at 10 am at the RM office to support the eighth annual Festival of Peace and Compassion, which runs throughout Winnipeg from Sept. 15 to 24.

East St. Paul Mayor Shelley Hart said council passed a resolution last month to raise a Peace Flag along with other cities and municipalities across the province to mark the launch of Peace Days.

"East St. Paul is proud to join other Manitoba communities, marking the official launch of the 8th annual Peace Days Festival," Mayor Hart said.  "We participated in Peace Days last year by raising a flag and our goal this year is to once again raise awareness and encourage participation in Peace Days events."

Peace Days began in 2010 and was inspired by Rotary World Peace Partners as a way to celebrate the United Nations International Day of Peace, which is Sept. 21 each year.

The City of Winnipeg held a Concert for Peace that year and the celebration has now grown to a week-plus long festival that will include a stimulating program of events throughout the city to appeal to all ages.
