FIRE DEPARTMENT
The East St. Paul Fire Department reports to Council on all matters relating to the fire and hazard protection and health and safety in the Municipality and makes recommendations to Council on essential projects and their costs.
This department has thirty-five members, all trained to a minimum of Level 1 Fire Fighting Certification and equipped with twenty-four hour call out pagers for quick response time. Twenty-four members are trained as Emergency Medical Responders. Training is also provided in the following areas: trench rescue, technical rescue, hazardous material response, vehicle extrication and water rescue, medical responder, and fire prevention and inspections.
The Fire Department is equipped with E-One 1050 GPM Pumper, a Spartan pumper, an International tanker, a Freightliner rescue/command unit, a Ford tanker, and a GMC pumper. Fleet Net radios are installed in all equipment and hand-held radios are available for seven officers - all with Provincial emergency frequency, some with ambulance and fire frequency.
The Office of the Fire Commissioner under the Fires Prevention Act requires the Fire Chief to submit a report which is available in the Municipal Office.
The Department responded to 246 calls within the Municipality in 2004, 229 calls in 2003, 210 calls in 2002, 206 calls in 2001, 162 in 2000 and 200 in 1999. The six-bay Fire Department is located at 2127 Camsell Avenue. Ray Riddolls is the current Fire Chief; Sig Zieba and Dennis Wiwcharyk, Deputy Fire Chiefs. The four captains are Jernej Anderlic, Bob Ezinicki, Myles Nelson, and Don Harrison.
